BREAKING: Francis Is Dead
Trevor John Francis, the former England striker and the first British player to be transferred for one million pounds, has passed away at the age of 69, according to a report by Daily Mail on Monday.
Francis gained fame during his time at Birmingham City and was a highly skilled and deadly striker in his prime.
He scored an impressive 118 goals in 280 games for his childhood club, which ultimately led to his momentous move from Birmingham City to Nottingham Forest in 1979.
This historic transfer made Francis the first British player to be transferred for such a substantial amount, as Brian Clough’s Forest team splurged on the enormous fee of £1,150,000 for his services.
Clough had previously clarified that the amount was in fact £1,150,000, as he aimed to alleviate the pressure on his prized acquisition.
Born on April 19, 1954, in Plymouth, United Kingdom, Francis was married to his spouse, Helen, for 43 years. He spoke about his remarkable football career and personal struggles following the death of his beloved wife in 2017.
Reflecting on their relationship, he said, “When you get into the first team as a footballer, you don’t think football will ever stop. Similarly, I didn’t think Helen and I would ever part ways. She was my best friend, and I couldn’t have achieved any of what I did without her.”
