BREAKING: Kano Market Engulfed In Flames Just A Week After Singer Market Fire

No fewer than 50 shops were destroyed in a dawn fire at the Fatima Simra Multi-Purpose Market in the Dakata area of Kano State on Friday morning, according to Ireporter Online. The blaze, which reportedly began around 5:40 a.m., consumed goods and property valued at millions of naira, leaving traders in shock over their losses.

Dauda Haruna Chula, Chairman of the market’s fire committee, confirmed the incident in an interview, noting that most of the affected shops belonged to small-scale businesses engaged in oil production as well as plastic and nylon recycling. At the time of his statement, he said the fire was still ongoing.

“From the preliminary assessment, about 50 shops are already destroyed and the fire continues to burn. We are still awaiting the arrival of Kano State Fire Service personnel,” Chula said. He added that market officials acted quickly to alert the relevant emergency agencies upon discovering the fire.

Some traders expressed concern over what they described as a delayed response from emergency services, suggesting that faster intervention could have reduced the extent of the damage. As of press time, authorities had not released details on casualties or the full scale of destruction.

This incident comes barely a week after a major fire reportedly affected more than 1,000 traders at the popular Singer Market in Kano State. Officials have yet to issue a statement on the latest fire, and investigations into its cause are ongoing.
