have been struggling to meet the warrant’s expiration deadline and have now requested help from the police to extend it.

Officials from the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) indicated that they authorized the police to take action due to the challenges faced in apprehending Yoon. However, Yoon’s legal team has rejected the CIO’s authority to arrest him.

CIO deputy director Lee Jae-seung informed reporters that the warrant is set to expire today and that they plan to ask the court for an extension. He also noted that the police had not yet agreed to the request.

The situation had escalated last week when investigators backed down due to safety concerns following a tense, hours-long standoff involving security forces. Yoon faces potential imprisonment or even the death penalty if convicted of insurrection for briefly suspending civilian rule, which triggered South Korea’s worst political crisis in decades. Despite this, Yoon and his supporters remain defiant.

Kim Soo-yong, one of the protest organizers, stated that the Presidential Security Service will continue to protect Yoon until midnight when the warrant expires. He added that they would return if a new warrant is issued.

Meanwhile, dozens of Yoon’s supporters from the People Power Party gathered in front of his residence early this morning in solidarity.
