Budget Controversy: Ningi Claims Threat Of Arrest Without Evidence Review
Senator Abdul Ningi, representing Bauchi Central, has unveiled a disconcerting narrative following his suspension from the Senate, revealing that his colleagues entertained the idea of arresting him without scrutinizing his evidence regarding the 2024 budget allocations……READ ALSO Alleged Budget Padding: N3.7 Trillion Later Accounted For, Should’ve Been Discussed In Senate – Jarigbe Advises Ningi
Ningi’s suspension, lasting three months, ensued after his allegation that a staggering N3.7 trillion from the budget lacked accountability for specific projects. This revelation, initially aired during an interview with BBC Hausa, ignited intense discussions both within the legislative chamber and among the Nigerian populace.
Addressing the media ahead of the Senate’s subsequent plenary session, Ningi reiterated his stance and expressed readiness to confront any consequences for his transparency. However, tensions escalated during Tuesday’s Senate session, with some members advocating for Ningi’s suspension amidst disorder.
Senator Olamilekan Adeola of Ogun West catalyzed further controversy by proposing a motion to formally discuss Ningi’s comments, which prompted additional accusations from Senator Jarigbe Jarigbe of Cross River North. Jarigbe alleged that certain “senior senators” had received N500 million each for constituency projects, implying systemic involvement within the Senate.
These accusations have since dominated public discourse, prompting calls for senators to clarify their roles and the specifics of their allocated funds. In a subsequent appearance on Arise TV, Ningi reiterated his concerns, highlighting concerted efforts within the Senate to stifle or even arrest him for divulging the untraceable N3.7 trillion.
Ningi asserted, “They have not engaged me regarding evidence. They are focused on silencing or arresting me to suppress the truth. I have unraveled this situation, and neither they nor I can contain it.”
