The devastating incident, which occurred on Saturday, claimed the lives of at least 86 people, according to reports.

In a statement released by his media aide, Garba Shehu, on Sunday, Buhari extended his condolences to the government and people of Niger State, describing the event as a heartbreaking tragedy.

“Former President Muhammadu Buhari extends heartfelt condolences over the tragic loss of lives following a petroleum tanker explosion at Dikko Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna highway in Niger State,” the statement read.

The former president also voiced his disappointment at the recurring practice of scooping fuel from tanker spills despite numerous warnings from authorities about its dangers and the frequent loss of lives it causes.

Buhari called for increased awareness to prevent future occurrences and conveyed his best wishes for the swift recovery of those injured in the incident.
