Presidential media adviser Sunday Dare has dismissed suggestions that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is worried about the political ambitions of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, insisting that the current government remains confident in its performance and electoral prospects.

Speaking during an appearance on a podcast monitored by Ireporter Online, Dare said the presidency has no reason to fear Obi, stressing that while the former Anambra State governor may have once been considered a formidable political challenger, the Tinubu administration believes its achievements have significantly strengthened its standing.

He maintained that Obi is entitled to call for the president’s resignation, just as the government has the right to reject such demands, arguing that there is no constitutional or political justification for President Tinubu to step down.

The presidential aide further emphasized that Nigeria operates a constitutional democracy with fixed electoral cycles, noting that citizens have the opportunity to express their choices through elections conducted every four years for the presidency, Senate, and House of Representatives.

According to Dare, the administration has remained focused on addressing the country’s challenges and delivering on its mandate, a performance he said has placed the government on a solid footing.

He also asserted that Peter Obi no longer poses a significant political threat to the ruling administration, expressing confidence that the former presidential candidate would be unable to defeat President Tinubu in Lagos State in any future electoral contest.
