God Gave Me That Niche’ — Mama G Reveals Why She Always Plays Wicked Roles
Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor, popularly known as Mama G, has explained why she became widely associated with roles portraying witches, wicked women and other villainous characters throughout her acting career.
The celebrated actress shared the insight during a live interview with content creator Carter Efe, where she reflected on her lengthy journey in the Nigerian film industry.
Ozokwor explained that her frequent portrayal of troublesome or evil characters was not something she deliberately set out to establish as her identity. Rather, she viewed the roles as an opportunity to showcase her versatility and talent as an actress.
According to the veteran performer, she believes the particular niche she became known for was a gift and an opportunity that came her way during her career.
She stressed that portraying a villain on screen does not mean she supports or identifies with the actions of the characters she plays.
Ozokwor said she personally dislikes evil, injustice, conflict and other negative behaviour, but remains committed to delivering her roles convincingly whenever such characters are assigned to her.
She noted that portraying morally questionable characters can also allow audiences to understand the consequences of making harmful choices and appreciate the importance of living responsibly.
The actress said she has always approached such roles with the understanding that every character has a purpose within a story, adding that audiences can learn valuable lessons from the consequences faced by characters who choose the wrong path.
Ozokwor’s portrayal of strict, intimidating and villainous characters has made her one of the most recognisable faces in Nollywood, with her performances earning her a strong following among Nigerian movie audiences.
Despite being strongly associated with villainous roles, the actress has also taken on a variety of other characters throughout her career, demonstrating her range and longevity in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
