Children’s Day Marred For Some Families As Tinubu Shares Update On Abducted Oyo Pupils

President Bola Tinubu has assured families of children abducted in various parts of the country that ongoing efforts are in motion to secure their safe return.

According to Ireporter Online, the President gave the assurance in a statement marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, noting that this year’s theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” underscores the importance of placing children at the heart of national development while ensuring their protection at all times.

Tinubu acknowledged that while many families are celebrating the occasion, others in states including Oyo and Borno are experiencing anguish as some children and teachers remain in captivity. He expressed sympathy for affected families, stressing that the government remains fully committed to their rescue.

The President stated that security agencies have been directed to intensify coordinated rescue operations nationwide, backed by improved intelligence gathering to ensure the safe recovery of abducted victims and the prosecution of perpetrators.

He also disclosed new measures aimed at strengthening school security, including the identification of vulnerable schools, enhanced collaboration between federal and state authorities, and improved communication between educational institutions and local security structures. He further emphasized the role of community-based early warning systems in preventing attacks.

Tinubu directed the Federal Ministry of Education and state governments to fully implement the Safe Schools framework, ensuring that institutions in high-risk areas are adequately prepared to respond swiftly during emergencies.

He added that government support for rescued children would extend beyond their release, including medical care, psychological counselling, education, and social reintegration to help them recover fully and resume normal life.

The President also called for collective responsibility in safeguarding children, urging parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, security volunteers, transport unions, youth groups, and the media to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, Tinubu said the government is determined to build a nation where children can learn safely, stay healthy, and pursue their aspirations without fear, noting ongoing investments in education, healthcare, nutrition, social welfare, digital skills, and community safety.
