A 37-year-old woman, Kofoworola Akanji, has been granted bail by a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos after being arraigned for allegedly publishing defamatory content against popular Nollywood actress and businesswoman, Lizzy Anjorin, via Facebook.

The defendant appeared before Magistrate Wahab Balogun on Wednesday, facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, defamation, and dissemination of false information, filed by operatives from the Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos.

According to the prosecution led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Haruna Ibrahim, Akanji—alongside unidentified co-conspirators—shared false claims and images of Anjorin between 2023 and 2025 in a manner deemed offensive and damaging to the actress’s public image. The content allegedly aimed to attract attention, increase social media engagement, and generate financial gain.

The prosecutor said the offences violate Sections 39, 57, and 150 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.

Akanji pleaded not guilty to all charges. Her counsel requested bail on the grounds that the charges were bailable, a submission the court accepted.

Magistrate Balogun granted bail in the sum of ₦100,000, with two sureties in the same amount, and imposed additional conditions. The case was adjourned to August 21, 2025, for trial.
