Naija News reports that Obasa, for the first time since his impeachment, publicly criticized the manner of his removal by fellow lawmakers. He was ousted by 32 of the 40 legislators on January 13, following allegations of misconduct and financial mismanagement.

Obasa, who was in the U.S. at the time of his impeachment, addressed a large crowd at the Speaker’s Lodge in Ikeja, Lagos, and denied all corruption allegations.

He stated, “I believe in due process, but there was no impeachment in the Assembly. There might have been a mistake from them. To remove the Speaker, the constitution’s rules must be followed, and they clearly weren’t.”

In reaction, Adefuye, speaking with Sunday PUNCH, agreed with Obasa’s stance, asserting that the removal procedure was indeed flawed.

However, GAC Chairman Tajudeen Olusi refrained from commenting on the matter, emphasizing his role in ensuring effective party function rather than addressing legal disputes.

The APC’s Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, also stated that the party would not get involved in the Assembly’s internal leadership affairs, affirming that such matters should remain independent of party influence.
