Tragedy Strikes As Delta State University Professor Shot Dead By Unknown Assailants

Emeka Chukwuma, a professor at Delta State University, Abraka, was tragically killed by unknown gunmen. The 56-year-old academic had just returned to his hometown of Umueji in Asaba, Delta State, on Friday for his usual weekend visit when the deadly attack occurred.

According to sources, the professor was assassinated in his home at St. Bridges area of Umueji Quarter in Asaba. “Prof. Chukwuma was a lecturer at Delta State University, Abraka, Anwai campus, which was later converted to Dennis Osadebey University. He would typically return home each weekend, but it was on this occasion that he met his tragic end,” a source told The PUNCH.

The increasing wave of killings and kidnappings in Asaba has raised concerns among residents, who are now calling on security agencies to ramp up efforts in ensuring safety and protecting lives. “Asaba is no longer safe; we are uncertain and worried about the situation,” another source revealed.

The state police have confirmed the murder and assured the public that they are actively investigating the incident. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, commented, “We have received reports of the incident and are currently looking into the matter.”
