Flood Disaster: FG Disburses N3bn Palliatives To Affected States
States affected by the recent flood disasters across the country have received the sum of N3 billion from the Federal Government meant to cushion the effects of the sufferings of their citizens.
This was disclosed on Wednesday at the National Economic Council Meeting held at the State House in Abuja.
The meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima was attended by governors and deputy governors from across the country and some Ministers.
The co-chair of the Bills and Belinda Gates Foundation, Bills Gate and the President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote were also present to make presentations.
Briefing State House Correspondents shortly after the meeting, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State said some states in the North were worst affected by the flood with lives lost and properties destroyed.
He explained that the money was meant to provide immediate relief to the victims of the disaster in the form of food and temporary shelter, especially those displaced from their homes.
Governor Bala said NEC also directed that a collaborative effort be coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture be put in place to ensure a holistic approach to addressing the flood disasters in the country.
Meanwhile, NEC has directed that an inventory be carried out to ascertain the level of damage by the flood.
Also briefing State House Correspondents, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State said the NEC Committee on Flood has been reconstituted with the Vice President now serving as Chairman.
Members of the Committee are Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State and Governor Douyi Diri of Bayelsa State.
Other members are Ministers of State for Water Resources, governors of Bauchi, Jigawa, Bayelsa States as well as Representatives of some government agencies.
