market turned into a business success.
After completing her studies three years ago, Nancy faced a tough job market and was unable to find employment. Despite her academic qualifications, she couldn’t land a job, so she ventured into business to support herself. Alongside her skills as a hairstylist and makeup artist, she found herself drawn to selling pap after realizing it could solve her own problem—helping her malnourished baby gain weight.
The turning point came when, after submitting her CV to a bank, Nancy received a discouraging response. This prompted her to embrace entrepreneurship. With a small investment of just N20,000, she began producing pap for her child, which caught the attention of others. As people started to inquire about the product, her husband encouraged her to turn it into a business.
Nancy didn’t learn pap production from scratch—she sought guidance from an expert who taught her how to make the product. This led her to establish her own brand, which quickly became a success. Her unique pap recipe, a blend of millet, tiger nuts, banana, potato, and carrot, helped differentiate her product in a competitive market.
Drawing from her educational background in Economics, Nancy approached her business with a strategic mindset. She focused on branding, packaging, and creating an identity that set her apart from other sellers. By using her personal experience and her son’s transformation as proof of her product’s effectiveness, Nancy began to build a loyal customer base.
Through hard work and creativity, she expanded her business online, promoting it on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Her success also attracted international customers, including clients in the USA, UK, Canada, and France.
Nancy’s path wasn’t without challenges. Many of her friends mocked her decision to start a pap business, but as the money flowed in, she stopped caring about their opinions. She believes that entrepreneurship is not only a means of survival but also a way to create a future. Now, as her business grows, she aims to become Nigeria’s leading pap producer, expanding her network of distributors nationwide.
For Nancy, education isn’t a waste—it’s been key to her success. Her advice to other graduates struggling to find work is to learn a skill, highlighting that in today’s economy, having a skill is essential to personal and financial growth.
