Indian Billionaire’s Dog Set To Inherit A Staggering £91 Million In His Will
An Indian billionaire businessman has made headlines after designating a significant portion of his £91 million fortune to his dog in his will.
Ratan Tata, the tycoon behind Jaguar, Land Rover, and Tetley, passed away earlier this month at the age of 86. His beloved German shepherd, Tito, is set to receive “unlimited care” as stipulated in his will.……CONTINUE READING
Typically, in India, one would expect such an estate to be inherited by family members. However, Tata chose to bypass his brother, Jimmy Tata, and half-sisters Shireen and Deanna Jejeebhoy, leaving them with only a fraction of his wealth.
According to the Times, Mr. Tata specified that substantial amounts should also be allocated to his butler, Konar Subbiah, and his cook, Rajan Shaw, both of whom are in their 50s and responsible for Tito’s care.
In his will, Tata, known for transforming the Tata Group into a global powerhouse, made provisions for Tito’s ongoing care, reflecting the deep bond they shared.
Suhel Seth, a close friend of Tata, noted that the arrangements for the butler and cook are generous, ensuring they will never have to work again and will be well taken care of.
He emphasized that these directives were not surprising to those who knew Mr. Tata well, describing the will as a “gesture of gratitude” for the love and care he received from his pets and closest aides.
During his leadership at Tata Group, Tata oversaw several high-profile acquisitions, including the purchase of the British tea company Tetley in 2000 for $432 million and the acquisition of Anglo-Dutch steelmaker Corus in 2007 for $13 billion—then the largest foreign takeover by an Indian firm. Tata Motors also acquired the luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford Motor Co. in 2008 for $2.3 billion.
Among his notable projects were the Indica, the first car designed and manufactured in India, and the Nano, hailed as the world’s cheapest car.
