Insecurity Battle: Niger Govt And Military Reopen Base Through Strategic Partnership

Acting Governor Yakubu Garba has announced that the military is assessing the security situation in Alawa, paving the way for the reopening of a military base in the town.

The Acting Governor made this disclosure at Government House, Minna, after receiving food donations from Senator Mohammed Sani, representing Niger East senatorial district, for victims of the recent bandit attack in Alawa.

The move aims to provide enhanced security cover to the area, which has been plagued by bandit attacks in recent months.

Yakubu Garba also said that calm has since returned to the Barkuta community of the Bosso Local Government Area of the State, following communal crises between farmers and headers which claimed the lives of several persons.

A delegation led by Babasule Bisala presented the donations to the Acting Governor at the government house, citing insecurity as the reason for not directly handing over the food items to those affected.

The recent attack resulted in the deaths of 13 farmers who had left an IDP camp to work on their farmland.

The Hakimi of Alawa, Ibrahim Salihu who spoke in Hausa said the victims were identified and assured that the intervention reached the victims and families of those who were killed during the attack.

The reopening of the military base is expected to bring much-needed relief to the affected communities and ensure a safer environment for residents and farmers.
