John Ogu Blasts Nigeria Football Federation, Players Over Super Eagles 2026 World Cup Failure
According to Ireporter Online, former Nigeria international John Ogu has attributed the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to shortcomings within both the Nigeria Football Federation and the national team setup.
Nigeria’s qualification hopes were officially dashed in November 2025 after the Super Eagles suffered a 4-3 penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo in the African playoff round, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Speaking during an interview with Brila FM, Ogu argued that long-standing structural challenges within Nigerian football management, combined with insufficient commitment from some players, contributed significantly to the disappointing outcome.
He expressed the view that those in charge of football administration in the country lack adequate technical understanding of the game, contrasting Nigeria’s system with other nations where former players hold top administrative roles and influence decision-making.
Ogu further suggested that players must also take responsibility, noting that representing the national team should be treated as a privilege rather than an obligation, while maintaining that the federation continues to make efforts, even if those efforts are not always sufficient to deliver success.
