Ude claimed that Justice Peter-Odili was involved in “negotiating a pathway for President Bola Tinubu” and had regular meetings with judges at the Appeal and Supreme Courts for this purpose.
However, in a statement released by her Media Assistant, Felix Enebeli, Justice Mary Peter-Odili strongly refuted these allegations. She deemed them as false, malicious, and intended to tarnish her impeccable reputation. The statement also mentioned that the retired Supreme Court Justice has taken legal action, involving her lawyers and the police, to address this matter appropriately.
The statement clarified that Justice Peter-Odili is not acting as a judicial consultant for anyone and is not associated with any presidential election petitions or any other election petitions whatsoever.
The statement issued an unequivocal denial of the allegations, emphasizing their falsehood and malicious intent. It expressed concern that these accusations could provoke the public against Justice Peter-Odili, particularly on a matter of national significance.
The public was urged to disregard the false publication and not to believe the allegations.
Furthermore, Justice Peter-Odili’s legal representatives have demanded a retraction and a public apology from Jackson Ude, and if this is not fulfilled, they intend to pursue legal action. A criminal complaint has also been lodged with the police. Additionally, her lawyers have submitted petitions to the State Security Service, the Nigeria Police, and Interpol to initiate an investigation into these baseless and damaging allegations that aim to incite the public against the retired Justice.
