KEDCO Attributes Power Shortage in Kano, Jigawa, Katsina to Reduced Allocation

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has attributed the recent drop in electricity supply across Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states to a reduction in its power allocation.

Residents in the three northern states have faced days of erratic power supply, leading to widespread concerns.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, KEDCO’s spokesperson, Sani Bala Sani, apologised to customers over the situation, describing it as a result of factors beyond the company’s control.

“We wish to sincerely apologise to our valued customers for the slight drop in power supply currently being experienced across our franchise area,” he said.

Sani explained that KEDCO’s allocation dropped from over 300 megawatts to an average of 167MW, with figures plummeting further at times to 150MW due to limitations on the transmission lines.

He described the available power as grossly inadequate to meet demand, forcing the company to implement widespread load shedding and rationing across feeders.

KEDCO assured residents that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) was working tirelessly to restore normal supply as soon as possible.
