May Day: Nigerians Say ‘Anywhere You See Oshiomhole Na Up NEPA’”

To this day, nothing tickles the cheeks of children more than when NEPA restores electricity; in short, we used to know how electricity was restored when we heard the loud yells of UP NEPA, which amused both children and adults.

Wow, those were the good old days when everyone was having fun and loving each other. Anyway, in local slang, UP NEPA means that life has been brought back to normal.

Today being May Day, I will be narrating a tale of a gentleman who influenced the lives of workers in Nigeria. Allow me to share with you the story of Adams Oshiomhole, a man renowned for his unwavering commitment and fervor in bringing progress wherever he goes.

He started his journey as a labor activist and rose to become the president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC). During his tenure, he fought tirelessly for workers’ rights and brought about significant reforms that improved the lives of the Nigerian workforce.

After his tenure as NLC Chairman, Oshiomhole set his sights on transforming his home state of Edo. In 2008, he was elected as the Governor of Edo State, and he wasted no time in getting to work. His vision was to bring light to every corner of the state, and he did this through his ambitious infrastructure development projects, including the construction of new roads, schools, hospitals, and other public facilities.

One of Oshiomhole’s most notable achievements was the “Red Roof Revolution,” an initiative to renovate and rebuild schools across every ward in Edo State. Under this initiative, over 1,000 schools were renovated, and new ones were built, providing better learning environments for students.

Oshiomhole’s tenure as Governor of Edo State was marked by his unwavering commitment to development and progress. He brought light to the state, both literally and figuratively, by improving access to electricity and other basic services, as well as promoting good governance and accountability.

In 2018, Oshiomhole was elected as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party in Nigeria. He brought his trademark energy and focus to this role, transforming the party and redefining the face of leadership. Under his leadership, the APC became a more inclusive and democratic party, with a focus on grassroots mobilization and community engagement.

Today, Oshiomhole is a Senator elect in the 10th National Assembly, and he continues to bring light to wherever he goes. He remains a passionate advocate for the rights of the people and a champion of development and progress. His legacy is one of hope and transformation, and he continues to inspire many in Nigeria and beyond.

His dedication to the Nigerian people is unwavering, and he is a shining example of what it means to be a true leader.
