Michelle Obama And Tems Engage Young Artists At The New Obama Presidential Centre

According to Ireporter Online, Grammy-winning Afrobeats sensation Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has met with former United States First Lady Michelle Obama at the Obama Presidential Centre in Chicago, where both figures engaged with aspiring young artists at the newly inaugurated Media Suite in Jackson Park.

The creative hub, unveiled as part of the Centre’s June 18–21, 2026 opening activities, is designed to provide young people with access to music production tools, podcasting facilities, and broader creative training opportunities aimed at nurturing the next generation of storytellers and artists.

Michelle Obama, in a video shared on her X account, expressed optimism about the initiative, noting that she and former President Barack Obama envision the Media Suite as a space where young people can discover their voices, develop musical skills, and produce meaningful art. She wrote that her meeting with Tems and other aspiring creatives reflected that vision in action.

During the interactive session, Tems expressed gratitude for the opportunity, thanking Michelle Obama and the Obama Centre for the invitation. She highlighted the importance of authenticity in artistic growth, stressing that staying true to oneself strengthens confidence and creative expression.

She also referenced her “Leading Vibe” initiative, which focuses on supporting young women in the music industry, noting that it aligns with the mission of empowering emerging talent to find their voice and identity in the creative space.

In her response to a question on confidence, Michelle Obama explained that self-assurance is developed gradually through consistency, practice, and lived experience, adding that the Centre was intentionally created to help young people explore and refine their talents.

Tems later described the encounter as inspiring, stating that she was deeply moved by Michelle Obama’s work and the opportunity to engage with her. She added that the experience reinforced her admiration for initiatives that uplift young creatives globally.
