While evaluating Tinubu’s first year in office, George urged citizens to exercise patience, noting that a single year is insufficient for a comprehensive evaluation of Tinubu’s administration. He pointed out that the current crises have roots in the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which spanned from 2015 to 2023.
George described the Buhari era as potentially the worst in Nigerian history since independence in 1960, suggesting that it almost led to the collapse of the Nigerian state. He cautioned against holding Tinubu solely responsible for long-standing issues, advocating for a fair period of adjustment and learning.
According to George, “We can still give the excuse that he had only done one year out of the four years hoping that he is learning from the mistakes of the past. We’ve got to be fair to ourselves. He needs to learn the ropes. Anywhere in the world that first year is used for understanding the system. The President alone cannot do everything.”
He acknowledged the current administration’s challenges, advising against quick judgments and urging for cooperative efforts to uplift the nation. George criticized the tendency to blame Tinubu’s administration for problems inherited from the previous government and called for unity and a collective approach to address Nigeria’s woes.
George concluded by stressing the importance of transparency from Tinubu, “Tinubu should also come out and tell Nigerians the true position of things in the country. This is not the time to play party or regional politics. Nigerians have suffered enough and they want fast results.
