PDP Suffers Blow As Four Bauchi Reps Join APM

A fresh wave of defections has swept through the House of Representatives, with four lawmakers from Bauchi State announcing their departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The development was disclosed during Thursday’s plenary session after Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read letters submitted by the affected lawmakers, informing the House of their decision to change political parties.

The lawmakers attributed their exit from the PDP to ongoing internal challenges within the party and their desire to better serve the interests of their constituents. Those who switched allegiance to the APM include Muhammad Shehu of Zaki Federal Constituency, Aliyu Garu of Bauchi Federal Constituency, Sani Tanko of Shira/Giade Federal Constituency, and Mansur Soro of Darazo/Ganjuwa Federal Constituency.

The defections are considered a notable political shift in Bauchi State, where the PDP has traditionally maintained significant influence. The move comes amid increasing political maneuvering and realignments as stakeholders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a related development, Jeremiah Umaru, who represents Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency in Nasarawa State, also announced his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The latest defections add to a growing trend within the House of Representatives. Earlier in the week, several lawmakers switched political affiliations, reflecting ongoing changes in the nation’s political landscape. These movements have intensified discussions about possible alliances, coalition-building efforts, and strategic repositioning ahead of future electoral contests.
