Peter Obi Slams Leaders Seeking Second Term Over Unpaid Salaries

According to Ireporter Online, Obi made the remarks during an interview with Advocacy for Good Governance, where he discussed leadership accountability, responsible governance and the role of citizens in demanding better performance from elected officials.

The former Anambra State governor urged young Nigerians not to rely entirely on politicians to solve the country’s challenges, stressing the importance of citizens actively monitoring leaders and questioning how public resources are being managed.

Obi argued that meaningful development would remain difficult if leaders who fail to fulfil basic responsibilities, such as paying workers’ salaries, continue to receive public support.

He cited cases where some government officials allegedly owe employees several months of unpaid wages while still pursuing another term in office.

According to Obi, such actions would not be tolerated in countries where leaders are held accountable for their performance and obligations to citizens.

The NDC candidate urged Nigerians to demand transparency and insist that public officials prioritise the welfare of the people rather than personal political ambitions.

He stated that citizens must play a stronger role in shaping the country’s future by holding leaders accountable and ensuring that public offices are occupied by individuals committed to service.
