Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have etched their name in history by becoming the first team to win the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket championship five consecutive times, ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE.

In a thrilling final match on Sunday night in Abidjan, the Rena Wakama-led Nigerian squad overcame a five-point deficit in the first quarter to decisively defeat Mali 78-64.

Nigeria’s path to glory in the 2025 edition saw them cruise past Rwanda and Zimbabwe in the group stages, edge out Cameroon in the quarterfinals, and topple fierce rivals Senegal in the semifinals before their triumphant showdown against Mali.

Despite trailing 21-26 after the first quarter, D’Tigress rallied to level the score 41-41 by halftime, led 61-56 by the end of the third quarter, and sealed the win 78-64 at full time.
