See What Tribunal Did To Tinubu’s Request To Access Electoral Materials

Tinubu

On Wednesday, the Presidential Election Petition Court, sitting at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to grant President-elect Bola Tinubu access to sensitive materials used in the presidential election.

The court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel led by Justice Joseph Ikyegh, said Tinubu’s request for access to electoral materials to defend his election victory was justified.

It ruled that Tinubu and his party, the All Progressives Congress, are both entitled to inspect, scan, and make photocopies of the materials in INEC’s possession.

Both Tinubu and the APC stated in separate ex parte applications before the court that they would require the materials to prepare their defense against petitions seeking to overturn the election results.

“The materials will be relevant in helping us to prepare our defence and also make comparison with information contained in INEC’s back-end server”, Tinubu’s lawyer, Mr. Akintola Makinde submitted.
