In a statement issued by the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Kennedy Peretei, the party emphasized that the public deserves clear explanations about the ₦11.5 billion allocated to the Ministry of Finance as a security vote. They also criticized the inclusion of ₦250 million for “Honorarium and Sitting Allowance” and the procurement of a Toyota Prado SUV worth ₦230 million for the Commissioner, calling it highly insensitive amidst the state’s economic challenges.
Peretei called for the immediate dismissal of the Finance Commissioner, stressing that these funds belong to the people of Ondo State. He stated, “The Ondo State 2025 Appropriation Act is riddled with scandalous allocations in the Finance Ministry that have sparked public outrage over the past two weeks.”
He further accused the Aiyedatiwa administration of complicit silence, stating, “The ₦11.5 billion security vote in the Finance Ministry remains unexplained despite widespread outcry. The ₦250 million for honorarium and sitting allowances is another blatant example of budget padding for the Commissioner’s benefit. Most alarming is the approval of ₦230 million for a Toyota Prado SUV for the Finance Commissioner, which reflects sheer insensitivity to the public’s plight.”
Peretei asserted that Mrs. Isaac Omowunmi, the Finance Commissioner, must be sacked immediately for abusing her office. “Her claim of being a UK-trained accountant is meaningless if her role is to deplete the state’s treasury,” he added, describing her as the supposed gatekeeper of public funds.
The PDP warned that if Governor Aiyedatiwa fails to act against the Commissioner, the party will take steps to hold the administration accountable, emphasizing that the real issue at hand is the mismanagement of the people’s resources.
