Popular Nigerian comedian and activist Adebowale Adedayo, widely known as Mr Macaroni, has publicly criticized former First Lady Patience Jonathan over allegations that 15 domestic workers have been held in prison since 2019 over missing jewelry.

Taking to social media, Mr Macaroni described the situation as deeply unjust, questioning whether Patience Jonathan is even aware that the workers remain in detention without trial. He expressed shock that these individuals have been imprisoned for over five years without a court conviction.

He emphasized that by law, every citizen is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and decried what he described as a recurring abuse of power by the wealthy and influential, who often detain people without due process simply because they lack the means to defend themselves.

Mr Macaroni’s statement read in part:

“The injustice in this country is so painful! These men and women have been locked up for over five years without a court conviction. Does Madam Patience Jonathan even remember that they are still in prison?”

He called on Nigerians to rise and resist the pattern of impunity that enables the rich to silence the powerless.
