According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Tinubu has declared his readiness to contest the 2027 presidential election, expressing determination to secure a second term in office. The President emphasized his commitment to tackling poverty and ignorance while strengthening democratic values across the country. He also took a swipe at opposition groups, urging adherence to the rule of law, respect for judicial authority, and the principles of separation of powers. The remarks were made during a meeting with leaders and coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
In a related political development, Labour Party chieftain Abayomi Arabambi disclosed that elements within the party, including its leadership and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, are aligned toward supporting President Tinubu’s re-election bid. In Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has raised concerns over withheld local government funds, which he said have hindered the execution of key projects. Amid growing political tension, ADC chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo has warned that any defection by Peter Obi from the coalition over the party’s presidential ticket could be interpreted as indirect support for President Tinubu. He maintained that leaving the alliance under such circumstances would raise questions about loyalty and political intent.
On the security front, reports indicate that at least 14 passengers, mostly candidates preparing for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examinations, were abducted by gunmen along a highway in Benue State. The victims were said to be travelling from Makurdi to Otukpo when the attack occurred. Authorities, including the state police command, have launched a rescue operation to secure their release.
In the entertainment sector, Nigerian singer Omawumi has stirred debate after asserting that romantic relationships have always involved some form of exchange. She noted that while such dynamics existed in the past, modern economic realities have made relationships more financially demanding.
Judicial proceedings have also taken a new turn in the case of late singer Mohbad, as a Federal High Court in Abuja approved a fresh legal move seeking to compel law enforcement authorities to reopen investigations into his death. The court granted permission for further legal action aimed at ensuring a comprehensive probe, including questioning individuals connected to the incident.
