Tribunal Fined APM, LP And PDP For ‘Frivolous’ Petition Against Tinubu’s Presidential Election Victory? – Fact Emerge

Tribunal

A Facebook user has claimed that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) fined three political parties for “filing frivolous petitions”.

According to the post dated September 7, 2023, the fines were listed as follows: APM: N13,675,890.00 only; LP: 47, 910, 431.87 only; PDP: 23, 391,001.45 only.

The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), Labour Party (LP), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had contested Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 2023 presidential election at the PEPT.

False post about frivolous petitions

Africa Check also thoroughly examined the final judgement document spanning over 700 pages but found no mention of any fines imposed on the petitioners.

The final judgement explicitly stated that the petitions lacked merit and were subsequently dismissed. It also affirmed Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the duly elected president of Nigeria. Additionally, there is no record of such fines in the televised version of the verdict.
