US Sends Strong Message To Niger Military Junta Concerning Bazoum’s Safety

The United States is holding the junta responsible for the safety of democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum, his family, and detained government officials in Niger.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed this stance, stating that the U.S. supports the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in its call for the restoration of constitutional order in Niger.

Despite the junta’s resistance, ECOWAS is determined to enforce sanctions, travel bans, and asset freezes on those hindering the return to power of President Bazoum, with the goal of restoring democracy in Niger.
