Peter Obi Makes False Claim About Female FCT Senator-Elect, Ireti Kingibe (PHOTO)

In a now-deleted tweet, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi made a false claim about female FCT senator-elect Ireti Kingibe.

On Tuesday, Kingibe was among the Senators-elect who received Certificates of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The certificates were presented to the winners of the recently concluded senatorial elections held on February 25 at the National Collation Centre (International Conference Centre) in Abuja by INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu.

In the first tweet, Peter Obi claimed Ireti was the first female senator-elect in the FCT, and he was chastised for making such a false claim.

The tweet was later deleted, and the correction was made to reflect that Ireti Kingibe was the FCT’s second senator-elect.

He wrote in a new tweet: “A very hearty congratulations to Senator-elect Mrs @ireti_kingibe; the second elected female senator for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Her election is in keeping with our commitment to women and youth.”
