There’s a saying that goes, “What everyone else is doing that doesn’t seem problematic might become a big issue when it’s your turn.”

The current scenario unfolding in Edo State involving Obaseki and Philip Shaibu mirrors this situation. Presently, Edo State is capturing attention in the media due to unfavorable circumstances stemming from the ongoing contentious power struggle between Obaseki and his deputy.

While we understand that two wrongs don’t make a right, it’s really important to be careful and think carefully in situations like this.

In a theatrical twist, the governor has hurled a thunderous accusation at Philip, painting him as the mastermind behind a daring coup plot. However, the curious part lies in the fact that Philip, a man without an army at his beck and call, finds himself in this alleged coup concoction.

Without explicitly spelling it out, the governor’s words carry an enigmatic message to Philip Shaibu, a message that resonates with the unspoken consequences of rebellion.

Everything appears to be set up for a huge show, and Philip must deal with the implications of going up against something formidable. He’s preparing for the difficult days that may befall him.

This piece is not intended to feed the flames of greater disintegration, but rather to make all sides recognise the reality of the situation.

Philip should be loyal to his boss, while Obaseki should do the bare minimum by creating an enabling atmosphere for Philip to pursue his gubernatorial ambitions, just as he was a benefactor of what Oshiomhole accomplished for him.

In light of this, my counsel extends as a sage piece of advice to both Obaseki and his Deputy Philip: exercising caution within the realms of their relationship, particularly as they brace themselves for an impending and possibly acrimonious clash.

We’ve been hearing rumors about the Edo State government planning to lessen the economic interests of Philip Shaibu and his supporters in the State. In times like this, it’s important to remember that just as power doesn’t last forever, neither do quarrels.

This situation will eventually pass, so why hold on to such strong animosity? The strong dislike they’re feeling right now won’t stick around for long, so we should question if it’s really worth all the fuss.

In a surprising turn of events, we witness Adams Oshiomhole and Dan Orbih sharing a meal together today. It’s a thought-provoking scenario: what if their previous conflicts had caused significant harm?

The takeaway here is that both sides should engage in their strategic battles with careful consideration. This isn’t the first instance where a Governor doesn’t back their Deputy to succeed them. However, as the saying goes, “It has come to Edo’s turn, and some want to ruin it.”
