Shekarau suggested establishing minimum or maximum limits on the number of appointees, emphasizing that certain positions might be unnecessary.

In the same interview, Shekarau commended President Tinubu for suspending his Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, who is currently facing allegations related to a N585 million disbursement scandal.

Edu, the first member of the President’s 48-person cabinet to be suspended, underwent extensive questioning at the EFCC office.

The controversy surrounding Edu heightened when the Accountant General of the Federation, Oluwatoyin Madein, revealed that although her office received a payment request from the humanitarian ministry, no action was taken.

Prior to her ministerial appointment, Edu held positions such as Cross River State Commissioner for Health and National Women Leader of the APC.

Despite her notable political ascent and involvement in Tinubu’s presidential campaign, Edu’s ministerial tenure was abruptly cut short, marking one of the shortest in recent history.

Simultaneously, the EFCC is investigating Edu’s predecessor, Sadiya Farouq, over an alleged laundering of N37.1 billion during her term. Farouq, who faced a 12-hour interrogation, is expected to undergo further questioning.
