Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onogwu Muhammed, issued a statement confirming the arrests and shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The governor, appreciating the lawmakers’ visit to convey congratulations on the successful and credible conduct of the November 11 governorship election, expressed dismay upon learning about the harassment of the legislators as they exited the government house.
The statement outlined the governor’s directive to ban unauthorized persons from accessing the government house, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order and security.
Governor Bello further called for the swift prosecution of the arrested individuals, underscoring the need for a thorough investigation by security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators face the full consequences of the law.
The members of the National Assembly who visited on Tuesday included Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho of Kogi East, Senator Sunday Karimi of Kogi West, Rt Hon Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims of Ankpa Federal Constituency, Hon Zachariah Idris of Idah Federal Constituency, Hon Sani Abdulrahim Egidi of Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, Hon Abdulrahim Danga (PDP) of Okehi/Adavi Federal, Hon Gowon Haruna of Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency, Hon Tijani Ozigi of Okene/Ogori Federal Constituency, Hon Danladi Aguye of Lokoja/Koto Federal Constituency, and Hon Salman Idris (ADV) of Kabba/Ijumu. The governor urged the security agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the incident to guarantee justice for the affected lawmakers.
