Kogi State Postpones Local Elections, Extends Chairmen’s Tenure Amid Financial Crisis! The Kogi State House of Assembly has extended the tenure of the Transition Committee Chairmen by an additional six months. This decision was made during the House plenary on Friday.

The extension comes following a letter from Governor Ahmed Ododo, who cited financial constraints and high wage bills as reasons for postponing the Local Government elections in the state.

During the plenary, Speaker Umar Yusuf read the Governor’s letter and emphasized the importance of the chairmen effectively representing their Local Governments.

“In the next six months, it will be interesting at the Local Government level as there will be mostly submission of reports to the Assembly. The Chairmen henceforth should take note of this,” Yusuf stated.

The terms of office for the 21 Transition Committee Chairmen were initially set to end on July 8, 2024. With the Assembly’s approval, the chairmen will now serve until January 8, 2025, following the completion of the local government elections.
