Raduano, listed among Europe’s most wanted criminals by Europol, was apprehended on Thursday, February 1, 2024. The notorious mobster had been serving a 24-year sentence for drug trafficking and other criminal activities.

The high-security jailbreak occurred in February 2023 when Raduano skillfully used knotted bed sheets to descend the prison walls. Surveillance footage captured the daring moment as he gripped the sheets, descended quickly, and made a swift getaway.

His right-hand man, Gianluigi Troiano, who had detached his electronic bracelet while on house arrest in 2021, was also captured on the same day in Granada, Spain, as he picked up a parcel from a service point.

Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi hailed the capture of Raduano and Troiano abroad, emphasizing the significant blow dealt to organized crime.

Raduano, 40, is reputed to be a key figure in the Foggia crime syndicate, often referred to as Italy’s fourth mafia. His recapture, while dining in a restaurant in Aleria with a young woman, marks the end of his run from justice
