The meeting, held on the sidelines of President Tinubu’s participation in the 37th Session of the African Union (AU) Summit, focused on trade issues between Nigeria and the renowned African carrier.

The Nigeria Air project, initiated during the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari, had seen an agreement with Ethiopian Airlines for management services. Despite significant investment and assurances, the national carrier failed to materialize, sparking revelations of irregularities in the deal.

Now, with President Tinubu at the helm, the future of Nigeria Air hangs in the balance. Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, expressed dissatisfaction with the previous agreement, signaling that President Tinubu would chart the course forward for the project.

Nigeria Air, founded in 2018, holds ownership stakes divided among Ethiopian Airlines (49 percent), Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (46 percent), and the Federal Government (5 percent). As stakeholders await the next move, all eyes are on President Tinubu to determine the fate of Nigeria’s aviation aspirations.
