Just In: Sanwo-Olu Pledges Completion Of Long-Abandoned Adiyan Water Project

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the 70 million-gallon-per-day Adiyan Water Project, which has been neglected for years. Speaking at the fifth Lagos International Water Conference, Sanwo-Olu promised that the project would be finalized within the next year.

The conference, themed ‘Financing Water and Sanitation for a Greater Lagos,’ underscored the critical need for financial resources to ensure water security, accessibility, and sustainability.

Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed the importance of action over rhetoric, saying, “We want to move away from lip service and rhetoric to real action. This conference should not be just a talk shop. We must build partnerships and identify what needs to be done.”

He added, “We are determined to complete the Adiyan water treatment plant, producing 70 million gallons per day. We need committed partners, not just proposals. Water does not have enemies, but we have been acting as its enemies. We aim to change this narrative in the next 12 to 18 months.”
