Just In: Police Confirm Saturday-Robbery In Ekiti-State (Details)
Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed that yet-to-be-identified gunmen carried out robbery attacks in the state capital. Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement, on Saturday.
Sunday Abutu said the robbery that occurred at a junction close to Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, in the morning, Saturday, led to the death of a woman, whose identity is yet to be ascertained.
The middle-aged woman, bystanders said, dragged her bag with the robbers, before she was overpowered and shot dead.
Abutu disclosed that the sum of ₦40,280 was found in the bag of the middle-aged woman.
A local said the assailants came on a bike and attempted to collect the woman’s bag as she stood by the roadside.
Abutu added that the late woman’s body had been deposited in the morgue, and the police are on the trail of the criminals.
The event led to the closure of all economic activities in the junction. Traders closed their shops, as others scampered to safety.
The Police Spokesman said the command has commenced tracing of the robbers. He advised residents to go about their duties. He assured that police remain committed to ensuring Ekiti State remained peaceful for the citizens and economic developments.
Residents said about four persons had fallen victim to the activities of the robbers who rob residents on motorcycles in Ado-Ekiti.
According to residents, these robbers attack on their bikes, aiming to snatch bags from victims.
