Courts Shut-Down In Anambra As Judiciary Workers Start Indefinite-Strike
The judiciary in Anambra State has been shut down as the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has kicked off an indefinite strike in the state.
The strike is in protest of the state government’s refusal to implement the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure (CONJUS), an agreement reached in 2011 and 2015.
Ireporteronline reports that the High Courts at Ekwueme Square, Chief Magistrate’s Courts, and Customary Courts in Amawbia, Awka are deserted.
No court proceedings took place as of press time, and no judges, magistrates, or staff were seen on the premises. Rather, only security personnel were present while the entrance gates to the courts remained locked.
According to JUSUN State Chairman, Mr. Henry Ezeoke, the strike is a last resort after the state government ignored a 21-day ultimatum.
“We have explored all possible avenues, but the state government has refused to comply with the agreement on CONJUS implementation,” he said.
“Downing tools is the only language the government will understand.
