Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a former governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Lagos State, has called on President Tinubu to take responsibility for Nigeria’s current economic challenges. He criticized Tinubu for blaming his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari, for the country’s economic woes.

Rhodes-Vivour cited a Wikileaks disclosure that revealed a conversation where Tinubu admitted that Buhari would not manage the economy well. Despite this, Tinubu, along with Buhari, belongs to the same political party and played a significant role in bringing Buhari to power. Therefore, Rhodes-Vivour argues, Tinubu cannot solely blame Buhari for the poor state of the economy.

“Tinubu was one of the proponents that brought Buhari into power, and he knew that Buhari was not good with the economy. Wikileaks has shown conversations where Tinubu actually said that Buhari would not handle the economy well. But Tinubu was still one of the chief proponents who supported him. So, he cannot now turn around and complain, saying ‘oh, they left us with a bad economy.’ This is your party, and this was the person you felt was best to handle the government,” Rhodes-Vivour stated.

Rhodes-Vivour’s comments highlight the internal conflicts within the ruling party and raise questions about the accountability of its leaders. As Nigeria continues to face economic difficulties, the public looks to its leaders for solutions and transparency regarding past decisions and their impact on the present situation.
