16 Burnt To Death, 3 Injured In Tragic Ondo Auto Crash
Sixteen people tragically lost their lives in an auto crash in Ajue, a community along the Ore-Ondo highway in Ondo State.
The accident, which occurred around 8 p.m., involved a Toyota bus and a truck that collided head-on, causing both vehicles to burst into flames. The victims were burnt beyond recognition, while three others sustained serious injuries. Two individuals reportedly escaped the inferno unscathed.
Eyewitnesses claim the accident was caused by a dangerous overtaking maneuver, with speculation that one of the vehicles was carrying extra fuel, which may have contributed to the fire.
The Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ibitoye Samuel, confirmed the incident and stated that overspeeding and reckless overtaking were likely factors in the crash. The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the mortuary at the State Specialists Hospital in Ondo town. Further investigations are ongoing.
