Nigerian singer Oludemilade Martin Alejo, popularly known as YCee, has explained the reason behind his absence from the music scene for several years.

According to Ireporter Online, the singer made this known during a recent livestream conversation with content creator and streamer Cater Efe, where he opened up about his time away from the spotlight.

YCee stated that his break from music was intentional, adding that it was a period he used to focus on personal growth and self-discovery. He noted that stepping away from the industry allowed him to better understand himself, his purpose, and the direction he wanted his life and career to take. He further disclosed that he has now returned to the music scene after that period of reflection.

In his words, “I have been on the mountain. I went on a journey of self-discovery. But I am back.”

The singer also addressed the origin of his stage name “Omo Alhaji,” explaining that it was inspired by his father’s Muslim background, despite not personally practicing the religion. He added that his guiding principle in life is rooted in love and personal values rather than religious affiliation.

YCee, who rose to prominence with hit songs such as Jagaban, Juice, and Omo Alhaji, remains one of the notable figures in Nigeria’s contemporary music industry.
