Ekiti 2026: Oyebanji Sweeps Bamidele’s Polling Unit In Stunning Win
Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election, recorded a decisive victory at the polling unit of the Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, defeating other contenders by a wide margin.
Official results announced on Saturday by the polling officer, Ms. Elizabeth Oregbemeh, showed that Oyebanji secured 164 votes to emerge the clear winner. His closest challenger, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Wole Oluyede, garnered eight votes, while the Action Democratic Party (ADP) candidate, Ayodeji Ojo, received one vote.
Earlier in the day, Governor Oyebanji expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the governorship election, describing the process as peaceful and commending the encouraging level of voter participation witnessed across various parts of the state.
The governor made the remarks shortly after casting his ballot alongside his wife at Polling Unit 003, Oyebanji’s Compound, RA 06, in Ekiti West Local Government Area.
According to reports monitored by Ireporter Online, Oyebanji said feedback from different communities indicated that the election was progressing smoothly, with residents responding positively to calls to exercise their civic responsibility.
While acknowledging that some polling units experienced technical challenges during the accreditation process, the governor urged voters not to be discouraged or panic. Reports from several locations indicated that electronic voter verification devices encountered difficulties in capturing the details of some voters, resulting in delays during the early hours of the exercise.
Reacting to the situation, Oyebanji appealed for calm and patience, expressing confidence that the issues would be resolved and assuring residents that the electoral process would continue without major disruptions.
