APC Appoints Moshood Olayide-Abas As Acting Chairman In Oyo State
Moshood Olayide-Abas has been appointed as the Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State. This development follows the passing of the former chairman, Isaac Omodewu.
Before his new role, Olayide-Abas served as the Deputy State Chairman of the APC. He was elected to this position during the party’s state congress in October 2021, alongside the late Omodewu and other members of the APC State Executive Committee.
The APC’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, confirmed in a statement that Olayide-Abas’s appointment was ratified during an emergency meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) held on Monday in Ibadan. The committee elevated Olayide-Abas to the position of Acting Chairman, in accordance with the party’s constitution.
“The new Acting Chairman has an impressive record of service both as a professional and a politician. He began his political career in the 1970s with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) and was mentored by the late Bola Ige,” Sadare noted.
Olayide-Abas, a certified pharmacist, has held several political roles, including serving as Executive Chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area in 1991 and Chairman of the Oyo State Hospital Management Board during the first term of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi. He also held key party positions in the defunct Action Congress (AC) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) between 2004 and 2009.
