Imo In Panic: Hoodlums Strike, Burn Down Former Senator’s Home!

The home of former federal lawmaker Frank Ibezim, who represented Imo North District under the All Progressives Congress (APC) from 2021 to 2023, was attacked by hoodlums on Monday night in Nsu, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, Imo State. Reports confirmed that the assailants set Ibezim’s residence on fire around 9 p.m., though the former senator was not present during the incident.

A video circulating online shows residents lamenting the destruction caused by the blaze. In a related development, the same group of criminals also targeted the National Open University study center in Nsu, setting the building ablaze the night following the attack on Ibezim’s home.

The Imo State Police Command, through spokesperson Henry Okoye, confirmed the attack, with Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma condemning the violent acts as senseless and unwarranted. He vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice and directed the immediate deployment of a tactical police unit to track down the attackers.

These criminal activities follow accusations against Ibezim regarding an alleged plan to establish an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp at the university, which some groups, including the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), opposed. However, Ibezim denied these claims, stating that the facility was solely for skills acquisition training and not for resettling IDPs.
