According to Mail Online, 24-year-old Latour traveled to Istanbul in March, paying €1,300 for a beard transplant procedure that ultimately left him disfigured and in emotional turmoil. During the operation, 4,000 hair grafts were transferred from his scalp to his face, with an irregular result that his father described as “hedgehog-like.”

In addition to his distorted beard, Latour experienced burns and severe discomfort, making sleep challenging. He later learned that his “surgeon” was an unlicensed estate agent rather than a qualified medical professional.

His distress over the botched transplant led Latour into a mental health crisis. He developed body dysmorphic disorder, obsessing over perceived flaws in his appearance. A Belgium-based specialist who attempted to correct the procedure disclosed that Latour’s scalp would likely never recover from the hair graft loss.

Three months after the operation, Latour took his own life. His grieving father has since launched a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of low-cost health tourism, hoping his son’s story will prevent similar tragedies.
