Police Step In After Viral Video Shows Lawmaker Slapping And Threatening Bolt Driver  “Do You Know Who I Am?

According to the statement, the driver filed an official report at the Maitama Divisional Headquarters, and the FCT Command is now handling the case. The Police advised the public to avoid using the Inspector-General of Police’s name or office to intimidate others, as such actions compromise the impartiality the office stands for.

The statement read:
“Nigeria Police Force is aware of the altercation between Mr. Stephen Abuwatseya and Hon. Alexander Ikwegh on October 27, 2024, in Maitama, Abuja. Following Mr. Abuwatseya’s report at Maitama Divisional Headquarters, the FCT Command has taken over the case. The public is also advised against using the IGP’s office to intimidate individuals.”

ireporter reports that the video, showing Ikwegh repeatedly slapping the driver over a delivery request, has drawn widespread attention and criticism. The driver had asked Ikwegh to retrieve a package, which allegedly led the lawmaker to insult and assault him, claiming the request was disrespectful and threatening the driver.
