Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has dismissed reports alleging that gunmen attacked the convoy of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in Osogbo.

Reports had emerged on Wednesday that suspected hoodlums allegedly attacked the governor’s convoy shortly after he visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji.

According to reports, the incident reportedly triggered an exchange of gunfire involving the suspected attackers and security personnel attached to the governor. The shooting was said to have lasted several minutes, causing tension in the area.

The governor had visited the traditional ruler after leaving the Osun State headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), where he was presented with his Certificate of Return following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.

However, Davido has rejected the reports, insisting that the incident was not an attack on the governor or his entourage.

According to Ireporter Online, the singer explained that a fight had occurred outside the monarch’s palace but maintained that it had nothing to do with Governor Adeleke.

Taking to his verified account, Davido described reports of an attack on the governor’s convoy as false and reassured supporters that the governor remains loved by the people.

He wrote, “Lies! It was a fight outside the palace that had nothing to do with us. The people love his excellency.”
