Nigerian Forces Strike Hard IPOB Founding Leader, 3 Commanders Captured In Bold Operations

Eastern Security Network (ESN). The arrests took place during coordinated raids in Orsu, Imo State, as well as Amaruku and Arochukwu in Abia State.

According to Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the operation resulted in the capture of Pius Iguh, an ESN founding leader in the Orsu area. Additionally, Emmanuel Onwugu, another ESN commander, was arrested in Mbano LGA of Abia State. Meanwhile, Ifeanyi Rock, a known cult leader, was apprehended alongside ten of his combatants in Arochukwu, Abia State.

The military disclosed that, during these operations, troops neutralized 24 terrorists, arrested 12 violent extremists, and rescued one hostage. Weapons recovered include 10 AK-47 rifles, 15 pump-action shotguns, and over 150 rounds of ammunition, along with vehicles and other items.

These raids are part of broader nationwide efforts. Troops across various regions have neutralized 140 terrorists and arrested 153 individuals involved in criminal activities. The military has also dismantled 47 illegal refining sites and thwarted oil theft worth over ₦1.75 billion in the Niger Delta.

In the Northeast, troops engaged Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists, killing 43 insurgents, arresting 27, and rescuing 25 hostages. The operations recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, further crippling terrorist capabilities.

Troops continue to pursue violent extremists across multiple fronts, including in North Central, North West, and South-South Nigeria, with ongoing operations yielding substantial results in kidnapping rescues and arms recovery. Major General Buba reaffirmed the military’s commitment to ensuring the nation’s security and urged citizens to cooperate in the fight against terrorism.
